What is an Affiliate?
The Energy Institute of Alabama is committed to the success of all facets of the large energy sector in our state. The Institute wants energy companies, businesses that support the industry and academic institutions that provide vital research to join in its mission of advocating for clean, reliable and affordable energy.
These entities may become Affiliates by completing the form and requesting inclusion, based on the decision of the EIA board.
Affiliates of the Energy Institute of Alabama include those entities:
- Engaged in the exploration, mining or sale of energy commodities.
- Engaged in the provision of infrastructure in support of the energy sector.
- Engaged in the manufacture, storage, distribution, sale or furnishing of natural or manufactured gas to or for the public.
- That provide substantial goods or services to Alabama’s energy sector.
- That are industry trade associations or trade associations with a primary purpose to support economic development with the State of Alabama.
- Or are universities and institutions of higher learning based in Alabama.
Current Affiliates
Alabama Clean Fuels Coalition
Alabama Clean Fuels Coalition serves as the principal coordinating point for clean, alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicle activities in Alabama. ACFC was incorporated in 2002 as an Alabama 501(c)(3) non-profit. We received our U.S. Department of Energy designation as a designated Clean Cities coalition — to facilitate voluntary public/private partnerships around the country to create viable markets for clean, alternative fuel vehicles — in 2009 and were re-designated in 2014.
Alabama State Port Authority
The Alabama State Port Authority operates Alabama’s full services international seaport handling import/export containerized, breakbulk, bulk and oversized/heavy lift cargoes to and from worldwide destinations. The Authority owns and operates the public, deep-water port facilities at the Port of Mobile handling over 25 million tons of cargo annually. The Authority’s container, general cargo, heavy lift and bulk terminals have immediate and unencumbered access to two interstate systems, five Class 1 railroads, and nearly 15,000 miles of inland waterway connections.
American Petroleum Institute
The American Petroleum Institute represents upstream (exploration and production) and downstream (refining, supply, marketing, and transportation) interests and investments of major integrated oil and natural gas companies. The Institute provides facts on all phases of member companies’ upstream and downstream operations in Alabama to elected officials, the news media, and the general public. API’s mission is to promote safety across the industry globally and to influence public policy in support of a strong, viable U.S. oil and natural gas industry.
Auburn University Samuel Ginn College of Engineering
The Auburn University Samuel Ginn School of Engineering’s vision is to be the best student-centered engineering experience in Alabama. The college is leading research that improves the quality of life and fosters economic effectiveness. The college employs a dynamic faculty that exemplifies excellence in education. Auburn produces more than one-third of Alabama’s engineering graduates and our prominent alumni include four astronauts and Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, Inc.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama
Since 1936, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama has provided access to quality, affordable healthcare to Alabamians. As an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, they are a trusted name in the healthcare industry.
Business Council of Alabama
Since its founding in 1985, with the consolidation of the Alabama Chamber of Commerce and the Associated Industries of Alabama, the Business Council of Alabama has worked hard to improve Alabama’s business climate. Working on behalf of nearly three-quarters of million working Alabamians through its member companies and local chambers of commerce, the BCA is the voice for Alabama business.
Manufacture Alabama
Manufacture Alabama is the only trade association in the state dedicated exclusively to the competitive, legislative, regulatory and operational interests and needs of manufacturers and their partner industries and businesses. Its mission is to create a business and political climate that promotes a positive, competitive environment and enhances the opportunity for growth of Alabama manufacturers.
Regions
Our Mission at Regions is to achieve superior economic value for our shareholders over time by making life better for our customers, our associates and our communities and creating shared value as we help them meet their financial goals and aspirations. Regions Financial Corporation traces its roots back to the late 19th century and three Alabama-based banks – the First National Bank of Huntsville, the First National Bank of Montgomery and the Exchange Security Bank of Birmingham. In late 1970, the three banks combined with First Alabama Bancshares, Inc., to form the first multi-bank holding company in the state of Alabama. The new company was grounded in one idea: sound banking principles and new growth opportunities could be combined to create a stronger financial institution for the state. The company was renamed Regions Financial Corp. in 1994 to better reflect its growing presence throughout the South.
Southeast Gas
The mission of Southeast Gas, formed in 1952 by 14 cities as Southeast Alabama Gas District, is to provide – within those regional communities – reliable, competitively priced natural gas, aggressively grow the customer base, provide quality customer care, recruit new industries and become the workplace of choice. It is the vision of Southeast Gas to become the public utility leader, recognized for innovatively serving and growing our regional community. Spire
University of Alabama College of Engineering
In 1837, The University of Alabama became one of the first five universities in the nation to offer engineering classes. The mission of the UA College of Engineering is to serve the state, nation, and global community by advancing the boundaries of knowledge through innovative research and education of the next generation of leaders. The College is directly involved in the Alabama Industrial Assessment Center, a UA research facility, which is one of 26 Department of Energy-funded centers throughout the country tasked with assisting manufacturing plants with energy conservation, waste reduction and productivity increases by issuing a detailed report of energy savings recommendations. Tom Bevill Energy, Mineral and Material Science Research Building located on UA’s campus was the first major energy research center in the southeast. Notable UA engineering alumni include Vicki Hollub, the first female CEO of a major U.S. oil and gas company, and Robert Jemison Van de Graaff, a professor and inventor. The College offers 11 undergraduate degrees, nine master’s degrees and eight doctoral degrees across a broad range of disciplines in engineering and computer science.
Volkert, Inc.
Founded in 1925, Volkert is a leading provider of transportation and infrastructure engineering services to federal, state and municipal government and private industry clients throughout the United States as well as select international clients. The firm offers a full range of services, including program management, planning, design and engineering, construction management, asset management, and alternative delivery. These services span a broad range of clients within its four core markets: transportation, energy, water, and the environment.
Join the Energy Institute of Alabama
The vital and diverse energy industry of Alabama now has an organization – the Energy Institute of Alabama – dedicated to promoting its importance to the state and protecting all segments of the industry in the public policy arena.
The Energy Institute of Alabama is led by Chairman Houston Smith and is headquartered in Montgomery. The organization will have active members, associates and affiliates from across the state that represent all facets of the energy industry, including electricity, natural gas, petroleum, coal, alternative energy, industry vendors and suppliers, academic institutions and business associations that support the industry.
