Lawmakers Focus on Critical Issues at Energy Day

More than 150 lawmakers, public officials and industry leaders gathered Tuesday at the State Capitol for Alabama’s third annual Energy Day. Hosted by the Energy Institute of Alabama, Energy Day attendees gained a national perspective on energy issues from Rick Dearborn and Marshall Macomber. Dearborn is a senior policy advisor for Adams and Reese, LLP, and Macomber is president of ThinkP3, specializing in public/private partnerships. Senator Cam Ward and Representative April Weaver chaired the event.

Governor Kay Ivey greeted the group and emphasized the vital role the energy industry plays in Alabama’s economy.

Dearborn advised the group of President Donald Trump’s plan to sign an executive order to limit states’ ability to block the development of gas pipelines. Trump signed the order later that day. In a wide-ranging discussion and question-and-answer session, Dearborn and Macomber discussed efficiency technologies, a transportation sector overview and a look inside the Department of Energy.

EIA Chairman Seth Hammett commended lawmakers for their participation in Energy Day and for their commitment to awareness of the issues affecting the industry. “Many issues compete for the attention of members of the House and Senate while in session,” Hammett said. “Energy Day gives our legislators exposure to critical information in a concise timeframe.”
